In 1958 my father worked for Ford and our family was transferred from Windsor, Ontario, to Geelong and Melbourne, Australia, for five years. Ford Australia cars were mostly British models, such as Zephyrs and Consuls. The Falcon was introduced and it took direct aim at General Motors Holden products. There were a few "Yank Tanks" around, and the 1959 Fairlane 500 would have been in that category. This Kodachrome was taken by my father on what appears to be a tour of Ford dealers, as Coates Motors was located in Bairnsdale, 280 km east of Melbourne. There is a rain deflector on the driver's side window — Victoria state law still required hand signals.

Ford Factory, 1954
The history of Ford here goes back to 1904 when Model Bs and Cs, and later Model Ts, were built in this complex. The plant was located right alongside the Detroit River at Riverside Drive East and Drouillard Road. The two storey building in the foreground was built in 1912 as office space, and as Ford expanded more offices were installed in the buildings behind. This is where my father worked in management.

1937 in Annapolis, Maryland, and Newport News, Virginia. The car, a Cord convertible, would be worth around a zillion bucks today.

Late one evening, summer of '77 on Mount Auburn street in Watertown, Massachusetts; it is now long gone. I loved the sign and the car.

VEYu> "1950 Nash experimental NXI."

Washington, D.C., or vicinity, 1924. Exhibit C in the Case of the Battered Buick — our third photo with the caption "Max Wiehle" and our second look at this tattered Model T, which we can now see is at a "Repair Shop Garage." Where the mechanics seem to be following the baseball scores.

Exhibit B in the Case of the Battered Buick is this twisted Model T. The second in a series of 1924 photos captioned "Max Wiehle." Max, son of the founder of the long-defunct Fairfax County, Va., hamlet of Wiehle Station, was a Washington, D.C., businessman who owned Potomac Sales, a car dealership.
